Mixi been a prick and it requires only japanese phone for complete registration of account. Its hard for those who are outside of Japan to not be able to experience how the Mori girl community is like in Mixi.

Why do Morigirls 'have to' prefer gold?? Because it looks better with earthy tones?? I thought handmade silver items would be more rustic and forest-like?
Ah well. I love this fashion so much. So adorable!! #^ 3^#)b

As someone who lives in the US, and has never been anywhere else, I think finding groups in different cultures to which you can relate is fantastic! The world may be a big place, but there will always be similarities. :)

Yay!
Lol, I totally agree!I first found out about the mori girl subculture a couple of months ago, and I just think it's superfun to be able to put a word on how I've always been! I've enjoyed these things for years, long before I ever knew there was a subculture full of people out there, just like me.
I sometimes did have a slight feeling of beeing a bit alone, like I was the only one in the whole world fond of excessive tea drinking, loose fitting vintage dresses, earth toned clothing, fireplaces, lace, old bookshops and all things cozy and cute. Most people here do after all find me somewhat weird, lol. :)
It's fun to know that on the other side of the planet (I live in Norway - and am btw amused by the fact that mori girls seems to be showing scandinavia so much interest) there are thousands of people with the exact same passions and hobbies. :)
When I first found out about the mori girls, I went all "Omgomgomg! My style acutally has a NAME? And there are more people out there, just like me! Hey, Mr.Boyfriend, get over here and look at this!!!". Lol!
Needless to say, I fell in love with the mori girl subculture at first sight. <3
On a side note: Someone here mentioned they wanted to "try all these things". I must say I am a bit puzzled by that attitude. Why start identify your self with a subcultur you dont acutally feel at home with? Becomming a mori girl (or a emo, or a lolita, or a goth, or anything else for that matter) just because it suddenly came into fashion, is ... I dont know.. it just feels wrong, somehow. It's not real. People who really fit into these cultures do so because they feel a geniune love for all the stuff that subculture represents.
If you don't really feel that you belong in a spesific subculture, do you self and the members of said subculture a favor and leave it to those who really do love it.
To be honest, I have mixed feeling about the fact that the mori girl style seems to be going into fashion. On one side I really love the fact that I found out about it (wich I obviously wouldn't have done if the subculture never grew enough to reach the online world), and that there are more people of there like me. But on the other hand, I hope it doesn't get all hyped up and supertrendy here in Europe. Because everything that goes into fashion must eventually go out again. And all subcultures that goes through that process are left with scars.
I'd much prefer to have a completely neutral and careless relationship to the fashion industry.
Sorry if this sounds harsh or hateful. I dont really mean it that way at all. I just think its weird to "try out" different subcultures just like you would try on a couple of jeans. To me, subcultures is about more than just how you dress and act. It's about what you feel and what you identify your self with. And those things have quite a powerful inpact on people.
But hey, people are different. Some people might think of this as nothing more than a temporarily thing, like a brief fashion trend. And that must be okey too, I guess.
Anywaaaaaay! :) I really would love to join a online mori girl community. It's really a shame Mixi doesnt allow foreigners to register!
Is there anywhere else to go?

There are a few on here that don't really fit; like many of the people here, I too prefer silver to gold. I wonder if it's because in the west, we associate silver as being more "homey" and "quaint", whereas gold is considered 'Loud" and "ostentaneous"?
I also tend to prefer cool colors to warm colors, and I tend to look better in cool colors, although I also enjoy warm colors if they are subtle (burgundy, dark dark brown, very very pale yellow) instead of loud.
I think I may just have to join!

But I have to take issue with the point about 'light complexion', if it's referring to skin colour, and I think it should be removed if that's the case.
I'm Mediterranean and although my olive skin is fairly light, I don't think it's good idea to be making an issue of skin tone (and attached to that, race). Skin tone is something that can't be changed of chosen like a hairstyle and I'd hate to think that Black, Indian, Middle Eastern or other darker skinned girls were being being made to feel like they couldn't wear the Mori style because of this.
May 6 2011, 03:52:57 UTC 1 year ago
Since Japan is largely homogenous, the people there all have pretty much the same skin tone, so it's a matter only of whether or not they get tanned. In a forest, there wouldn't be much sunlight, so a mori girl wouldn't have the dark tan of, say, someone who lived on the beach. At least, that's how I'm reading it.

It's possible to create a mixi account if you use the email given to you by your school, usually in .edu, but sometimes in other endings as well. I just made one myself with my school email and it skipped the step in which you need a Japanese cell phone for activation. You also need a basic knowledge of Japanese (or a good translator) in order to navigate the sign-up form.
